my timing is impeccable

Hmph, I'm sick as a duck and it's 3 days until BSD (Bermuda Shorts Day), the big end-of-year celebration at my university. That and it's the busiest week at work and my roommate Jenn's birthday on Wednesday. Hmph I say again. Well I'm just popping the vitamins and sleeping as much as I can (in between work, dance lessons, and "The Hills") and hoping for the best. I will not miss BSD for anything!!
On to happier news.. a few weeks ago Andrew and I went to Fire Escape with Tanille and Bryan to paint pottery, and then back to Bryan's for a delicious dinner. Here's the proof:

That's my vicious fishy who obviously had something yummy for lunch. He's not perfectly painted but I love him anyways. Plus i'm hoping he'll be a good holder of my pot scrubber when I move into my 1 bedroom apartment next month. OH YEAH I'm moving into my own 1 bedroom apartment for the summer! It's still in residence, which will be GREAT cause i'll be taking summer classes and it'll be a 5 minute walk in the glorious sunshine. I'm très excited!

Okay so here's what Andrew and I scrambled around all morning to make for dessert to take to Bryans..

It's a fruit pizza with a shortbread crust, cream cheese base, delicious fresh fruits, and dark and white chocolate drizzled on top! MmmMmm delicious! It went great with the oh-so-good chow mein stir-fry that Bryan and Taylor prepared.

What else happened that night, you may ask? Well I can tell you, spontaneous yoga happened:

Spontaneous raspberries happened:

And even a spontaneous jig or two happened:

... but we don't talk about it.

That was a lovely night. Now lets just all hope that I'm better by Friday so that can be the loveliest DAY ever! I promise to take tons of pictures as always. You can see my BSD post from last year here I also just realized in my last year's BSD post I linked back to my 2005 BSD post and there were a HECK of a lot more pictures on that one. Perhaps that's because Facebook hadn't been invented back then (or maybe it had but I just didn't know it yet), so I couldn't just post all my pics on Facebook like I did last year. This year hopefully a nice long blog will come out of it, although I will admit that uploading pictures is a pain in my butt so you better appreciate it!

Alright, time for a bit of dinner. I haven't eaten much all day, no appetite when i'm sick, so I better force something down.

something more productive like.. Roscoe

Mmm I'm loving that song by Midlake right now (Roscoe). There's a new radio station in our city (X 92.9) and they are playing all sorts of great music including rock I remember from my childhood (Nirvana, Matt Good, Smashing Pumpkins), and also introducing us to all sorts of new stuff like Midlake, Tokyo Police Club, The Dudes. I can dig it.

Alright, I know it's been a dealthly long time but I've been putting the knitting off a bit because of work and all sorts of crazy stuff I've been up to lately. But I'm back at it now, and now only knitting but I'm back at the crochet too. My grandfather was working on this blanket when he passed away. He has crocheted one for each of his children and their families, and was working on crocheting one for each of his grandchildren's families. The blanket that was in the works was meant for my half-brother, and since I am one of the only active crocheters in the family, it was passed on to me to finish. I put it away for quite a while, I wasn't quite ready to work on it and give it the attention it needed. But now I've picked up where he left off and I'm really enjoying it.
Here's what it looks like, on the bottom right corner of this picture you can see my white yarn tie, marking where I my grandfather finished and I started. So I'm just getting started, but the blanket is nearly done. It's a bittersweet feeling.

Hey! you can also see all the random stuff I have under my bed, wonderful :) I'm too lazy to move that for the shot.

Getting back into crochet for this blanket reminded me of the awesome book my awesome boyfriend got me for Christmas:

Debbie Stoller's "Stitch 'N Bitch Crochet: The Happy Hooker". I already have her "Stitch 'N Bitch Nation" book, the 2nd in the Stitch 'N Bitch series, so what an observant boyfriend I have to notice that I love that book and that I crochet as well as knit, and would therefore love this one too.

There are so many things I want to make in this book. I'm excited just thinking about them. But I want to finish up the blanket before I get started on anything.

Here's a WIP that is a great little project to take around cause it's compact yet flashy, so everyone just has to ask you what you're knitting. And then when you tell them it's a.. WRISTWARMER?!?! they just look at you funny. Anyways, here is warmer #1. The second has yet to be started.

I don't have a pattern for these, but it's just a simple tube with 1x1 ribbing

on the top and bottom, a bit of wrist shaping, and a thumb hole. Easy peasy. And the secondary colour is actually a light turquoise although I know it kind of looks white, the colours didn't photograph perfectly.

Alright, I sure do love 12am fire alarms in my building, that force me and my roommates and the boy outside for 20 min so we just go to Tim Horton's because at least there they have warmth and food. Yep, that just happened, right in the middle of this post here. But now i'm pooped. Andrew and I went to see Marianas Trench and Faber Drive at Mac Hall tonight and it was a great show, but a woman has to work.. and she has to work early tomorrow morning, so goodnight all!

Love,

Colleen

A tale of two dogs, and an alligator

Well, it's been a busy month! What with projects in school, full time work, family, and friends.. I'm surprised I had any time to knit. But I DID! I made the Alligator Mittens from 'Stich n Bitch Nation', what a cute pattern. I made some alterations and made a size somewhere inbetween the written sizes of Child (12 years) and Lady (S/M). It was tooooo big still! Yes, this means that apparently my hands are even closer in size to a 12 year old child's than I thought. Andrew begged me to let him have this mitten, even if I don't make another that size. I'll make another 2 in a size that will actually fit a girl. But anyways, it's cute and I wanted to show you:

I haven't glued his eyes on yet.. they're just resting there atop his head :( Andrew's alligator needs a name.. any ideas??

Andrew took me to Panorama for my birthday, we had 3 hour a couples spa session (facials, massage) and it was SOOOO nice! Well, that is .. after we made it through the snowstorm to get there!! We drove for hours in horrible road conditions with snow flying EVERYWHERE, until we finally got to a hotel in Lake Louise. Then we found a sock made into the bed and called the front desk who sent the CUTEST lady to remake the bed with new sheets. Oh it was such an adventure!
-- And this was just the beginning of the storm, by the end there was at least a foot of snow on the ROAD itself, yechh --

Right but yes, we finally got to Panorama the next morning just in time for our spa session. Then we went to his boss' condo, stayed out of the cold, and have a wonderful night. We also went to the only place that was open at night in Panorama the weekend before ski season started, and it was a great place! We had the awesomest shrimp sandwich with dill mayo on a baguette.. at a PUB! yeah you heard me. Oh and we found this GIANT FREAKING DOG just hanging outside the front door of the aforementioned pub. AWW! I was too afraid to go too close but Andrew definitely wasn't..

And I promised you two dogs.. here's the 2nd. My roommate's sister's boyfriend brought his dod Alizé over one day and Andrew and I went nuts. It was the CUTEST thing seeing a little doggy running around our little apartment. AGH! I will have a great dog one day, ONE DAY! Check out this little cutie.. oh and the dog too :) hehe

So much cuteness I can't handle it!

Alright, time to get ready for bed. Before this year I could never even fathom getting to bed before 11pm, EVER. And now it's the norm. I hate Norm and all that he stands for.

Almost Christmas! Boy do I ever have a lot of shopping to finish :s

catching up

Well, it seems like I'm always catching up. At work, at school, and even here on my blog. So, what have I been up to lately? Lets see..

This year started out with the UofC 40th anniversary kickoff party, with some great bands including Spirit of the West and Bedouin Soundclash. This was on move-in day for us apartment rez kids so it was the first day I got to see my roommates since last spring!

If you can't read Steph's visor.. it says "UofC.. A great place to work and learn".. we found it on the bleachers of McMahon stadium. Classy.

On the right is Bedouin Soundclash. Boy that bassist can sure dance! The best part was when they played 'Hey Beautiful Day' and the entire audience sang along! Oh and I also liked when the random people ran across the field behind the stage at the end and nobody stopped them. haha.. causing havoc isn't as easy as it used to be!

Last month our friend Chris had a mexican themed party at his rez apartment entitled 'Fiesta Desnudo'. We mostly hid in his bedroom to avoid the masses of hot, sticky, drunk people populating every other square inch of the apartment. The night ended with the shitkicking of a poor little pinata, which I can't post because I took video and this blog won't let me post videos. But once I figure out how to do it, I will most definitely share it with you.

Left to Right:
Chris, me, Andrew, Steph (or should I say, Stephanita!.. no, I shouldn't, that's a terrible name, shame on me)

Jen looking festive in her umbrella, and Reza looking suave.

Just a week ago Andrew's band "Lions and Tigers and Bears" played a show a Tequila. It was one of the funnest shows that I've been to, partly because of the awesome bands they played with, and partly cause my dear friend Heather and her lovely boyfriend came along!

The girls . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The boys

.. and what happens when you put them together!

The night's openers, a band from BC called Whitfield. Really great music and nice guys too. I'm already wearing my new Whitfield t-shirt all the time.

Lions and Tigers and Bears with a super set full of classics and some newer stuff.. and then Hot Little Rocket, whom I screamed my head off at to play my fav song of theirs.. and it paid off! "Are my eyes too red to go to work today?!"

Well.. that's that. I have to wait til tomorrow to get my halloween/20th bday pics back because I took them on a disposable camera, for the safety of my digital camera on the pub crawl last Saturday.

PS: today marked the first official day that it is fair game to play christmas carols on the radio, sell christmas decorations in stores, and start a countdown to the big day itself (54 days til xmas!)
